BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — Bridgeport High School students got a chance to make their voices heard with a visit from a special guest from the state government on Thursday.
Ohio Senator Lou Gentile, D-District 30, which includes Belmont County, spoke to students about his responsibilities in Columbus, and he also took some questions.
They were queries about the role of lawmakers, public education, and what it means to be a United States citizen.
“We want to create an environment where these young people want to stay in the Ohio Valley,” Gentile said. “That goes with trying to create good-paying jobs, rebuild infrastructure, strengthen communities.”
“I hope they learn what they say to the legislators, they take back to Columbus, and hopefully something gets done,” Bridgeport Superintendent Zac Shutler said. “That’s the way it’s supposed to work. So I hope they learn and understand the process.”
Gentile hopes to talk to more students throughout the Ohio Valley, getting them involved as much as possible.
